GTA 6: Best Controllers, Headsets & Capture Gear

You don't need extra hardware to play Grand Theft Auto VI: Rockstar has only said it runs on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it hasn't published any accessory or storage requirements. If you want a better controller, a headset for the radio, or a way to record your runs, these are the official and well-known options, with specs taken from each maker's own page.

PS5

PULSE Elite Wireless Headset (PS5)

  • Confirmed Planar magnetic drivers and a retractable boom mic with AI noise rejection. PlayStation
  • Confirmed Up to 30 hours of battery, and a 10-minute charge gives about 2 hours. Connects over PlayStation Link (USB adapter included) and Bluetooth at the same time. PlayStation

Xbox Wireless Headset (Xbox Series X|S)

  • Confirmed Up to 20 hours per charge; 30 minutes of charging gives about 4 hours. Bluetooth 5.3, so it can pair with your phone and console at once. Xbox
  • Confirmed Supports Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic and DTS Headphone:X, with voice isolation, auto-mute and chat-balance dials on the earcups. Xbox

Capture: recording your runs

Start with what your console already does. You only need a capture card for long, high-quality recordings or streaming from a PC or Mac.

  • Confirmed PS5: save recent gameplay from the last 15 seconds up to 1 hour, or record up to 1 hour of new gameplay. 4K recording works with a compatible display. PlayStation Support
  • Confirmed Xbox Series X|S: the Share button on the controller records clips and screenshots, and you can record to external storage. Some games block capture. Xbox Support

Elgato Game Capture 4K S

  • Confirmed Captures up to 4K60, 1440p60 or 1080p120, with passthrough up to 4K60, 1440p120 or 1080p240 and VRR. Elgato says it works with PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Elgato
  • Confirmed Connects over USB-C and needs Windows 11 or later, macOS 14.2 or later, or an iPad with USB-C. HDR capture is Windows only. Elgato

Elgato Game Capture 4K X

  • Confirmed Capture and passthrough up to 4K144 over HDMI 2.1, with VRR passthrough. Elgato lists it as recommended for PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X. Elgato
  • Confirmed Elgato recommends a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port; a slower port works at reduced resolution. HDR capture is Windows only. Elgato

Rockstar hasn't published GTA 6's file size or storage requirements. We'll add a storage guide here once it does, instead of guessing.
