Privacy policy

We collect very little: your email if you join our list, what you send through the contact form, and analytics data once analytics is switched on. We never sell your data, and visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland choose whether ads and analytics can use cookies.

Who we are

GTA 6 Waypoints runs gta6waypoints.com, an independent fan site. We're responsible for the personal data described here. To reach us about privacy, use our contact form.

What we collect

  • Your email address, if you sign up for our newsletter (the "day-one guide drop" and weekly roundup).
  • What you send through the contact form: your name, email address and message.
  • Analytics data, once analytics is switched on: pages you visit, how you got here, your device and browser type, rough location (country or city), and events like signups or affiliate link clicks.
  • Server logs kept by our host: IP address, browser, requested page and time.

We don't ask for or knowingly collect sensitive data, and we don't run user accounts.

The email list

  • We use Brevo to store our list and send emails. Brevo processes your email address on our behalf.
  • If our Brevo form isn't available, signups are captured through Netlify Forms instead, and we move them into Brevo.
  • We use your email only to send the newsletter you asked for.
  • Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we'll stop emailing you.
  • We don't sell, rent or share your email with anyone else for their own marketing.

Contact form

Messages sent through our contact form are stored by Netlify Forms. We use them only to read and answer your message, and to fix errors you report.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful. It loads only once we've configured it on the site; until then, no analytics code runs.

  • We use Google Consent Mode v2. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics storage is denied by default until you give consent through the consent banner.
  • Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store full IP addresses. Google handles IP data as described in its own policies.
  • We use analytics data only in aggregate, to improve the site.

Ads and cookies

Display ads aren't on yet. Once they're enabled, Google AdSense may show ads and may set cookies or use similar technologies to:

  • Show personalised ads, based on your interests, where you've allowed it.
  • Show non-personalised ads, based on the page you're reading, and limit how often you see an ad, measure ads and prevent fraud.

Learn how Google uses data on sites like ours at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. You can turn ad personalisation off at Google's ad settings.

If you visit from the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you'll see a consent banner from Google's Privacy & Messaging consent tool, which follows the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF).

  • Until you make a choice, consent for ads and analytics defaults to denied.
  • You can accept, reject or choose by purpose and by partner.
  • To change your choices later, use the privacy or cookie settings link the banner adds to the page, or clear this site's cookies in your browser and reload to see the banner again.

Outside those regions, ads and analytics cookies may be used by default. You can still block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and use Google's ad settings.

Some links on the site are affiliate links, marked "(paid link)". We're part of Amazon Associates. If you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set cookies to track that the visit came from us, so we can earn a commission if you buy. Amazon's own privacy notice covers what it collects. More in our disclaimer.

YouTube videos

Videos on this site are click-to-load. We show a placeholder instead of the YouTube player, and nothing loads from YouTube until you click play. When you click, the video loads from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, and Google's privacy policy applies from then on.

Hosting

The site is hosted by Netlify. Netlify keeps server logs (including IP addresses) to deliver the site, keep it secure and prevent abuse.

For visitors covered by the GDPR or UK GDPR:

  • Newsletter: your consent, which you can withdraw by unsubscribing.
  • Contact messages: our legitimate interest in answering you and fixing errors.
  • Analytics and ads cookies in the EEA, UK and Switzerland: your consent, through the consent banner.
  • Server logs and security: our legitimate interest in running a safe, working site.

Your rights

EEA and UK (GDPR / UK GDPR). You can ask to access, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to get a copy of it. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

California (CCPA/CPRA). You can ask what personal information we collect, use and disclose, and ask us to correct or delete it. You won't be treated differently for using these rights. We don't sell your personal information. Where ad cookies could count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising, you can opt out by using Google's ad settings or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.

To use any of these rights, contact us. We may need to confirm it's you before acting.

Children

The site isn't directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the EEA. We don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you think a child has sent us their data, contact us and we'll delete it.

How long we keep data

  • Newsletter email: until you unsubscribe, then removed from our active list.
  • Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your message, then deleted.
  • Analytics data: kept under Google Analytics' retention setting, then deleted automatically.
  • Server logs: kept by Netlify for a limited period under its own policy.

International transfers

Our providers (Brevo, Netlify and Google) may process data outside your country, including in the United States. They use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses where the law requires them.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this page when how we handle data changes, for example when analytics or ads are switched on. The "Updated" date at the top shows the latest version.
